Research- Kyle Cooper

Kyle Cooper is a director of film titles; making over 150 different ones. He has been credited with "almost single-handedly revitalizing the main-title sequence as an art form". He founded two companies, Imaginary Forces and Prologue Films. He is a member of the Alliance Graphique Internationale and holds the honorary title of Royal Designer for Industry from the Royal Society of Arts in London.

He was influenced by Stephen Frankfurt's opening titles to "To Kill a Mocking Bird".

Research- Saul Bass (1920-1996)

Saul Bass was a graphic designer most famous for his work on film title sequences, notably Hitchcock, Preminger, and Scorsese. His first notable work was the title sequence and posters to the film The Man with the Golden Arm in 1955, which starred Frank Sinatra.

Saul Bass could pick out the one image that symbolizes an individual movie as a whole, and he would use these in the posters and title sequences that he produced.

After Effects Animation

This is an animation that I produced in After Effects. This was my first time using the software, so it was more of a learning process than something technical. I started off with a simple square, which I transformed in various different ways, such as scale, transparency, movement speed, movement path, and altered the colours. Then I reflected the pattern, modifying x and y values in the corresponding way, before doing so again. I scaled down the movie size, due to it being quite large, and added music onto it.

I enjoyed using After Effects, as it allowed me to make something that would have taken me days to make in Flash under 2 hours to make. The software is easy and fun to use, and up to now it isn't that complicated. I am pleased with the animation I ended up with, as it animates nicely, and looks cool. The only thing I don't really like is how erratic the movement is- I may try making the movement slower, and smoother.

Animation Videos

This was an advert that aired a few years ago for Honda cars. I remember liking this advert when it came out due to
the animation, and the upbeat attitude that it had. Honda picked a great song to go with it, and I believe the animation
style goes with the song excellently.

First Post

This is my Interactive Media Blog.

Here I will do some of my research, and give examples of my work, and feelings/ examples of the different things that I will study.

The above image is a Photoshop Cut Out filter of the Library in my town centre. I like this image, as I believe it has a similar appearance to images that appear in media nowadays.
